Lefty proves point using Els

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Phil Mickelson sure does have a funny way of making a point.

He was asked following his second round if he thinks the course is in a condition where players can attack it, making it play less like a traditional U.S. Open.

“I wouldn’t say it hasn’t shown its teeth,” he said. “This is a very difficult golf course. Ernie Els, one of the best players in the game, was 15 over. It’s not easy.”

Good point. Although the analogy probably isn’t going to earn Mickelson any cool-guy points with the Big Easy.
