Levin has outside shot to make U.S. Open

RSS

Despite missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Spencer Levin still has a good chance to earn a berth into next week's U.S. Open.

Levin will not earn any world ranking points for his two days in Memphis, but is still slated to finish No. 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking on Sunday. The top 60 in the ranking are exempt into the year's second major.

Several players, however, can oust Levin from 60th.

No. 61 Ryo Ishikawa is the most likely to bump Levin from the top 60. Ishikawa is currently T-22 after two rounds. If he finishes inside the top 25, he would displace Levin.

Y.E. Yang could surpass Levin, as well, if he finishes inside the top 11. He is also T-22.

If either Charles Howell III or Robert Garrigus can post a top-three finish, they would push Levin out of the top 60.

Finally, five players can pass Levin with a win, including Ryan Palmer, Robert Allenby, Sean O'Hair, Jeff Overton and Padraig Harrington. Harrington is closest to the lead of the group, tied for eighth after two rounds at TPC Southwind.
