Lewis in hunt, shoots first-round 71 at U.S. Open

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – Stacy Lewis finished four shots behind Inbee Park in their marquee grouping in Thursday’s start of the U.S. Women’s Open, and Lewis sounded pleased about it.

“This is not a tournament you want to lead after the first day,” Lewis said. “Because it’s hard to maintain that for four days.”

Lewis was the Rolex world No. 1 for four weeks in March and April before Park seized it from her. No. 2 Lewis and No. 3 Suzann Pettersen played with the world No. 1 Park in Thursday’s big three grouping at Sebonack Golf Club.

“I’m just excited about where my game’s at,” Lewis said.
