Lingmerth stumbles into share of Players lead

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The rookie didn’t go away, but he didn’t make the going any easier on Sunday afternoon.

David Lingmerth bogeyed his final hole of the weather-delayed third round early Sunday, pushing his drive into the right rough at the 18th hole and clipping a tree with his approach.

Despite his miscue, Lingmerth is tied for the lead at The Players with Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, at 11 under par.

“Honestly, I felt pretty good with (hitting the tee shot at the 18th),” said Lingmerth, who pulled away from the field late Saturday afternoon with an eagle at the 16th and a birdie at the 17th before play was suspended. “I was trying to hit a cut and just kind of pushed it.”

Lingmerth will be paired with Garcia when the fourth round gets underway.
