LPGA has new TV partner in Japan

The LPGA has a new television partner in Japan, the tour announced Wednesday.

The tour will partner with WOWOW TV for the cable and satellite broadcast rights to all LPGA events in Japan starting next year. The 5-year deal will allow WOWOW to air approximately half of the LPGA schedule.

As part of the package, WOWOW will broadcast two majors, the Wegmans LPGA Championship and the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

The company has committed to promoting LPGA coverage at levels comparable to other major entertainment outlets in the country. It will distribute a plethora of LPGA programming on its three networks.

WOWOW also has deals to air tennis Grand Slam events, the UFC and the NBA.

The contract was negotiated with help from International Management Group.
