The search for a new title sponsor is underway for the LPGA’s State Farm Classic.
State Farm announced Friday that it will end its sponsorship of the Springfield, Ill., event after this year’s tournament (June 9-12) at Panther Creek Country Club.
State Farm’s sponsored the event for the last 19 years.
A search for a new title sponsor promises to be a high priority for LPGA pros, who have seen American events on the tour schedule shrink from 24 three seasons ago to 13 this year.
“The way you reach consumers is different now,” Mark Gibson, State Farm’s assistant vice president of marketing, told Springfield’s State Journal-Register newspaper. “We evaluate sponsorships, and sometimes we renew them, and sometimes we discontinue them. It’s a normal, natural process.
“This is not an issue about savings. This is an issue of us looking at our business as a whole and all the ways we reach consumers,” he added
