LPGA returning to Los Angeles

The LPGA will return to suburban Los Angeles next year.

A new venue that’s actually an old LPGA venue is news in the announcement that Kia Motors America is extending its title sponsorship for two years with the event moving to Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms next year. It will mark the first LPGA event in the Los Angeles area since 2005. It also marks a return to Industry Hills, which was home to an LPGA event (the Olympia Gold Classic) won by Sally Little in 1981 and ’82.

La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad hosted the inaugural Kia Classic this year but was unable to continue to host due to a planned golf course renovation next year, according to the LPGA.

The Kia Classic, a 72-hole event featuring a 144-player field, will be played March 24-27 on Industry Hills’ Dwight D. Eisenhower and Babe Didrikson Zaharias courses.
