Lyle again in remission; moved by support

RSS

Jarrod Lyle received good news this week in his second battle against leukemia. He has received word from his doctors in Australia his leukemia is again in remission, now awaiting a bone marrow transplant.

'I woke up this morning to an email from his lovely wife, Briony, that he is in remission at this stage and looks highly likely that he'll be able to head into the transplant process on June 1,' said Luke Elvy of Network 10 in Australia on Thursday on 'Morning Drive.'

Lyle first beat leukemia as a 17-year-old. He was told in March it had returned. Days later, his daughter, Lusi, was born.

Elvy said Lyle is very grateful for the support his peers have shown while competing.

'It's moved him almost to tears to be honest,' he said. 'He's been just so touched the way the tour has got behind him and understands his fight right now.'

Players have been wearing a duck pin on their clothing in support of Lyle's battle. Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler were both wearing the pin when they won at Bay Hill and Quail Hollow, respectively.

'This is what this entire support for Jarrod has been all about,' Elvy said, 'giving him a reason to believe he can overcome this and get through the other side.'
