Lynn excited for beloved Wigan Athletic FC

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – David Lynn’s third-round 68 at The Players was the second best thing that happened to the Englishman on Saturday at TPC Sawgrass.

As he was playing the ninth hole on Day 3 he learned that his beloved Wigan Athletic FC beat Manchester City, 1-0, in England's FA Cup at Wembley Stadium. Lynn compared the victory to winning the Super Bowl for a team he used to work for as a ball boy.

“It’s a huge accomplishment, really,” he said.

The same could be said of Lynn’s first five months as a PGA Tour member. He finished tied for fourth at just his sixth event (Honda Classic) and lost in a playoff last week to Derek Ernst at the Wells Fargo Championship to secure his status on Tour next year.

“I turned up here with no expectations,” said Lynn, who is tied for seventh at TPC Sawgrass at 8 under and four strokes out of the lead. “I had nothing to lose. It’s free-wheeling for me really.”

This will be Lynn’s final Tour event until late this summer. He plans to fly home to England on Monday to begin the European Tour leg of his season that begins with the BMW PGA Championship, a three-week vacation and then five in a row through the British Open.

He will return to the United States in August for the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, PGA Championship and FedEx Cup playoffs.
