Marino scrambles just to make Open

TURNBERRY, Scotland – When Steve Marino packed for the John Deere Classic the last thing on his mind was the Open Championship, so when he learned last Wednesday that he was the second alternate into Turnberry it was time to scramble.

Marino, who landed a spot in the field when Shingo Katayama withdrew, flew his father, Steve, to his home in Florida and had him FedEx his passport to Illinois and had his manager round up some all-weather clothing.

“My dad loves Florida,” smiled Marino following a second-round 68 at Turnberry. “He got to skip work.”
