CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Numbers lie, sure, but this one is hard to ignore. Quail Hollow’s closing trifecta (Nos. 16-18), dubbed the “Green Mile,” has ranked as the toughest collective finish on the PGA Tour for non-majors six out of the last seven years.
Or, if you want a slightly less technical opinion, just ask Steve Marino: “Guys are holding their breaths when they get to those holes. One over (par) is good,” he said following a third-round 67 that left him tied for ninth.
Seems about right since Marino covered that final 1,173 yards in . . . yep, 1 over.
