Martin receives exemption into Las Vegas Tour event

RSS

Casey Martin has accepted a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour’s Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, the tournament announced Wednesday. The event, part of the Tour’s Fall Series, will be held Oct. 4-7 at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.

It will be Martin’s second event of the season, after he qualified for the U.S. Open and nearly made the cut at The Olympic Club. Martin, who suffers from a birth defect in his right leg known as Klippel-Trenaunary Webber Syndrome, hasn’t played a regular PGA Tour event since February 2005.

“The opportunity to compete in the Justin Timberlake Shiners Hospitals for Children Open is an incredible honor,” Martin 40, said in a release. “With the exceptional care provided by the hospitals for families, regardless of their ability to pay, I am excited to be involved and support a great cause.”

Martin is entering his seventh season as the head men’s golf coach at the University of Oregon. The Ducks do not have a tournament the week of the Las Vegas event. Instead, they play Oct. 8 at the Pac-12 Preview in Portland, Ore.
