James Turner has been playing golf for three years and has worked diligently to get his handicap down to 6. The Gloucester, Mass., teen accomplished something not many do in a lifetime in the game, he collected his first ace in May on the par-3, 230-yard 17th hole at Bass Rocks Golf Club.
Golf Digest and the National Hole in One Association estimate that a tee shot hit by an amateur golfer on a par-3 goes into the hole one out of every 12,750 times.
But that's just the beginning of the story. On June 24, only a month after hitting the shot of his young life, while playing the same hole with the same Titleist driver, Turner recorded another hole in one on the 230-yard hole.
Turner, 14, just completed eighth grade from Eastern Point Day School and hopes to play golf next year at St. John's Prep in nearby Danvers.
