McDowell eyes Tour card

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Graeme McDowell has informed the PGA Tour he intends to take up membership this year following his breakthrough victory at last month’s U.S. Open.

The Northern Irishman had 60 days to take up membership following his victory and will begin earning official money and FedEx Cup points this week at St. Andrews. He was already scheduled to play at least twice before the start of this year’s playoffs (WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship).

McDowell took up special temporary membership in 2009 but failed to earn enough to secure his 2010 Tour card.
