McGinley: Dubuisson '99 percent' on Ryder team

RSS

Well, it appears there is one fewer spot available on Paul McGinley’s European Ryder Cup team.

The Irishman told Sky Sports on Sunday that Victor Dubuisson, a spectacular runner-up at the WGC-Match Play, was “99 percent” likely to make the team that heads to Gleneagles. The 23-year-old Frenchman currently leads the European Points List.

“It looks like with the points he has accumulated he is a nail-on now,” McGinley told Sky. “If he was 90 percent before ths week, he is 99 percent now. With all the evidence we have seen this week, I think he will be a very welcome addition to the team.”

Dubuisson, a former No. 1-ranked amateur who splashed onto the scene at last year’s Turkish Airlines Open, conceded Sunday that the Ryder Cup has been his No. 1 target.

“I’m very excited and this was very good preparation for me because now I know what I need to work on,” he said, according to the report.

His short game clearly doesn’t need much work, though there won’t be any cacti at Gleneagles.

As U.S. skipper Tom Watson tweeted Sunday: “Two of the greatest up-and-downs I have ever seen Victor!!!”

Now, it appears, Watson will be able to see that remarkable short game up close.
