McIlroy believes respect won Fowler his Ryder Cup spot

RSS

LEMONT, Ill. – Rory McIlroy will be in the opposing locker room as a member of the European Ryder Cup squad, but he believes the respect Rickie Fowler’s won among veteran PGA Tour pros is the reason he’s on the American team.

McIlroy believes Fowler will help American team chemistry.

“All the players seem to like Rickie,” McIlroy said as he prepared for this week's BMW Championship. “I know Phil Mickelson was pushing for him. When you have guys like that behind you, who want you on the team, it’s important. The thing about Rickie is that you can put him with anybody, and he'll be great in the team room.”
