McIlroy fires a high strike on ceremonial first pitch

RSS

It was a delicate pitch. It couldn't be too hard or too soft. Reigning U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy almost executed it perfectly.

McIlroy threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Tuesday night at AT&T Park as the San Francisco Giants hosted the Houston Astros.

'I've probably given it more thought than golf,' McIlroy said ahead of the game to Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

The Ulsterman toed the pitching mound and delivered a throw that was slightly high but on target to the catcher during Irish Heritage Night at the stadium. McIlroy had been preparing for the throw by practicing with a golf ball and medicine ball. A baseball is somewhere in between in size.

As part of the night, the team also distributed Rory McIlroy bobbleheads to fans. The doll sported a Giants hat and logo on an orange shirt.

The world No. 2 took in the first couple of innings of the game in front row seats before moving up to a suite with friends, family and sponsors.

The Giants won the game, 6-3, over the Astros.
