McIlroy happy to be under par

RSS

DORAL, Fla. – After the horn sounded suspending play for storms at the WGC-Cadillac Championship on Thursday, Rory McIlroy maintained that he had “a good chance for birdie” when he returned to the course.

He knows what he’s talking about.

After a two-hour, 24-minute delay, McIlroy returned to the par-5 first hole – his 10th of the day – and made one of five birdies in his yet-to-be-completed round. The downside? He also posted four bogeys for a 1-under total with four holes left to be finished Friday morning.

“I said I’d be happy with anything under par from this round and I’m still on course for that,” he said. “I’m happy with the way I played and I’d like to get something in the 60s and I’d be happy with that.”

Four days after losing the Honda Classic in a four-man playoff, McIlroy is currently tied for 13th place, two strokes behind a quintet of leaders.
