TURNBERRY, Scotland – One big difference about golf on this side of the pond is that gambling is acceptable. Actually, it's encouraged.
Proof that Europe is excited about its new young star, Rory McIlroy, is that he's listed by some bookmakers as the third favorite behind overwhelming favorite Tiger Woods and Ian Poulter.
'It wouldn't surprise me to see Rory have a very big week this week,' Poulter said. 'If he doesn't, he's going to have plenty of opportunity.
McIlroy is paired with Anthony Kim and Retief Goosen for the first two rounds here at Turnberry. McIlroy and Kim were paired together for the first two rounds of the Masters and the first three rounds at the U.S. Open.
'I really enjoy Anthony's company,' McIlroy said. 'We get on really well. And we'll probably be chatting a lot because the third member is Goosen, and he doesn't like to chat much.'
The kid is only 20 and he's already got certain things figured out.
