McIlroy may have good luck in new coin

RSS

BETHESDA, Md. – Rory McIlroy looks as if he couldn’t be more prepared for this U.S. Open . . . except for one thing.

About 30 minutes before teeing it up in the second round, one of McIlroy’s managers, Stuart Cage, approached Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis and Jason Sobel looking for a coin. McIlroy needed one to use as a ball marker before heading out with Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. A fan offered up a penny, but Cage said McIlroy preferred a quarter. A U.S. Open volunteer came up with one.

That quarter ended up in a lot of favorable spots with McIroy blistering the front nine in 32.
