McIlroy reacts to recent Chamblee comments

RSS

Former world No. 1 Rory McIlroy weighed in on a recent article on Golf.com penned by Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee where he gave Tiger Woods an 'F' for the season. McIlroy was speaking in advance of this week's WGC-HSBC Champions.

'Yeah, I think Brandel was completely wrong. I don't think he has the authority to say anything like that about Tiger Woods,' the 24-year-old told the AFP. 'People wouldn't know who Brandel Chamblee was if it wasn't for Tiger Woods, so I am completely against what he said and I think he should be dealt with in the right way.'

In the Oct. 15 article, Chamblee gave the current world No. 1 a failing grade for the past season, explaining that Woods had been 'a little cavalier with the rules' en route to five wins and PGA Tour Player of the Year honors. Days later, Chamblee took to Twitter to apologize to the 14-time major champion, noting that 'golf is a gentleman's game and I'm not proud of this debate.'

While Woods is absent from the limited-field event teeing off tomorrow in Shanghai, he and McIlroy did reunite earlier this week for a 1-on-1 exhibition match at Mission Hills in China. McIlroy won for the second consecutive year, clipping Woods by one shot after carding a 6-under 67.
