McIlroy sees some Irish luck

RSS

Rory McIlroy caught some terrible luck when his fourth shot at the 10th hole in the final round of the Masters struck a towering conifer and fell to the ground. On Friday in the second round of the Malaysian Open, the Ulsterman got lucky in hitting the longest drive of his life.

At the par-5 fifth hole, McIlroy hit a booming drive that then happened to catch the cart path at Kuala Lumpur GC – propelling the ball 400 yards or so off of the tee.

'Irish Central' reports on McIlroy’s comments about the drive: “I was lucky it hit off the cart path and it could have went out of bounds but it stayed in bounds for me and set up an easy birdie.”

It led to one of two birdies on the front nine (his second nine) par-5s en route to 8-under 64 and a share of the lead.
