McIlroy sheds light on new clubs, not manufacturer

Rory McIlroy shed a little more light Thursday on his work with his new equipment, but didn’t reveal the manufacturer.

McIlroy is playing his final event with Titleist equipment, shooting  6-under to open the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Following his round, he was asked about how much testing he had done with his new clubs.

“I’ve done a little bit. After the Ryder Cup, I started to test a little bit,” McIlroy said. “I’ve got six or seven weeks to really get into it. I’m pretty much set with everything, just a matter of getting more comfortable with it, playing a few rounds, and it should be OK.”

McIlroy is heavily rumored to be heading to Nike Golf for a deal worth an estimated $200 million. Coming off a four-win season in 2012, including his second career major championship and money titles on both major tours, McIlroy said he’s not worried about new clubs adversely affecting his game.

“I’m very confident. I feel like with the changes that I’ve made in equipment, even with the same manufacturer, I feel like I’ve gone into (new) clubs easier than other players,” McIlroy said.

“I’ve basically got a set of irons, if not the woods sorted. It’s just a matter of getting the ball dialed in and I’m good.”
