McIlroy Theres no vendetta against PGA Tour

RSS

Rory McIlroy on Wednesday morning clarified reasons he has decided to skip The Players Championship this spring.

“For everyone who is interested, the reason I'm not playing TPC this year is because I've never thought the golf course has set up that well for me,” McIlroy tweeted. “Hence, two missed cuts in two years. I have no sort of vendetta against Tim Finchem or the PGA Tour. I love playing in the US and have always found the people very welcoming. I'm sure one day I'll join the PGA Tour again, but right now I want to put all my efforts into Europe and the race to Dubai. Hope this clears a few things up!”

Chubby Chandler, McIlroy's agent, told Golf Channel The Players Championship no longer holds the allure to European Tour players that it once did.

'To be honest, The Players Championship in May isn't quite as big a tournament as it was in March,' Chandler said. 'When it was the end of March, it was just such a great buildup to the Masters, for journalists, for TV and for players. It feels like a very big PGA Tour event now, but it doesn't feel as special as it used to be.'
