McPherson wants more than an assist at Kraft Nabisco

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Kristy McPherson’s effort was bittersweet last season at the Kraft Nabisco Championship . She teed it up Thursday morning knowing only a victory can improve upon her performance.

McPherson enjoyed her best finish in a major (T-2) here last season, got to see her close friend Brittany Lincicome win her first major while playing in the final pairing with her and received a points boost that helped launch the run that got her onto the Solheim Cup team. But McPherson left Mission Hills last year knowing she had a one-shot lead on the 72nd tee. Lincicome’s terrific eagle at the final hole beat her.

“I was happy for Brittany,” McPherson said. “But not as happy as I would have been if it was me, but I was happy for her.”

Lincicome credited McPherson for helping steady her nerves through that final round. McPherson was asked if she should be credited with an assist.

“No, but I did ask for part of her check,” McPherson joked. “I have yet to see that. Being together helped both of us.”

McPherson teed off with Candie Kung in Thursday’s first round. Lincicome is scheduled to go off with Michelle Wie in a marquee afternoon pairing (3:16 p.m. ET).
