Coming from six down to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Phil Mickelson improved six spots in the Official World Golf Ranking. Mickelson moved to 11th from 17th with his 40th PGA Tour win.
Tiger Woods, who slipped to T-15 with a Sunday 75, remained at No. 18. Charlie Wi jumped 57 places to No. 118 with his runner-up finish.
Rafael Cabrera-Bello, who outlasted Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher to win in Dubai, rose 59 places to No. 60 in the ranking. He will be in the field at the WGC-Accenture Match Play.
Westwood’s desert performance didn’t net him a victory but did allow him – by 0.005 points – to replace Rory McIlroy in the second spot. Luke Donald remains No. 1, with the rest of the top 10 unchanged from last week.
With Mickelson choosing to skip the Match Play to spend time on a family vacation, Ernie Els is in the Arizona field as he is No. 65 in the ranking. If Paul Casey, or any other player, has to drop out of the event, then South African George Coetzee is next in the tournament. Coetzee finished T-5 in Dubai to gain 11 spots, to No. 66 in the word.
