Mickelson out of another pro-am

LEMONT, Ill. – Phil Mickelson is out of another FedEx Cup Playoffs’ pro-am.

Mickelson will be “shifted” out of Wednesday’s BMW Championship pro-am at Cog Hill a week after he “opted” out of the Deutsche Bank Championship pro-am at TPC Boston.

PGA Tour pros who finish among the top 30 in money or FedEx Cup points in the previous year of competition are allowed to opt out of two pro-ams per year. Mickelson used that option in missing last week’s Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-am and the Arnold Palmer Invitational Pro-am back in March.

According to the PGA Tour, Mickelson was “shifted” out of this week’s pro-am at the request of BMW Championship officials to perform in another event function for the tournament.

The “shift” was mutually agreed upon by BMW and Mickelson and approved by the Tour, according to PGA Tour officials.

Notably, Mickelson’s pro-am absences come on the heels of his criticism of the PGA Tour pro-am rule that got Jim Furyk disqualified from The Barclays, the first FedEx Cup playoff event. Furyk was DQ’d for missing his pro-am tee time that week. The PGA Tour suspended the rule in question last week.
