WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – Phil Mickelson will be competing in the Scottish Open next week, but he’ll likely get a sneak preview of the upcoming Open Championship venue before that tournament starts.
After missing the cut at The Greenbrier Classic for a third straight year, Mickelson said he would fly home to San Diego for a few days, then go to the Scottish Open, but revealed that a day trip is likely in the works.
“I’m planning on it,” he said of getting an early glimpse at Muirfield next week. “I’m going to try to. I’ll head over there for the Scottish and maybe slide over for a day Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday – I’m not sure – over to the British.”
Mickelson finished in a share of 66th place when the Open Championship was last held at Muirfield in 2002.
