He said it all depends on how his family’s doing as his wife and mother continue to recover from breast cancer surgery. He was scheduled to fly to his California home on Monday night.
“It is just day to day,” Mickelson said. “I will fly home tonight and see how things are.”
Mickelson said even if he passes on the BMW Championship, his intent is to play the Tour Championship, if he qualifies. He must be among the top 30 in FedEx Cup points to advance to the final event in the FedEx Cup playoffs. After shooting 66 Monday, Mickelson was projected to go from 10th to 12th in FedEx Cup points.
Mickelson’s finish should be motivating. It looks like his putter is getting hot. He birdied five of the last seven holes and had seven one-putt greens on the back nine.
“I have not made that many putts in a month,” Mickelson said. “It was fun to see that many putts rolling in and making birdies.”
