Mickelson thinks he can get to No 1

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Phil Mickelson won’t take home another Wanamaker Trophy, but he liked his finish Sunday at the PGA Championship despite a closing bogey.

While Mickelson won’t get a second major championship to go with his Masters' title this year, he can still claim some big prizes, including the FedEx Cup, PGA Tour Player of the Year, world No. 1 ranking and the Ryder Cup. He said Sunday’s 5-under-par 67 gave him momentum with his next start at the Barclays in two weeks in the opening of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

About his failure to claim a top-four finish, which could have gained him the No. 1 ranking, he said:

“If I can just start playing well, I think I can get that done. But it just wasn’t to be this week.”

Mickelson revealed at week’s start that he has psoriatic arthritis, but he says it’s not as serious a form as some are stricken with.

“Just over two weeks of treatment, and I feel great,” he said. “I don’t feel like there’s anything wrong.”
