NEWPORT, Wales – Phil Mickelson said this week’s big match will come after the golf clubs are put away.
It’s Mickelson vs. Tiger Woods on opposite sides of the ping-pong table.
“Our big match usually takes place Sunday night,” Mickelson said. “So we have just kind of practiced against each other. We have hit it back and forth, but nothing fierce yet. Our competition is Sunday night. We play a best-of-five series.”
Woods will be looking to avenge his loss to Mickelson at the Presidents Cup last year. Mickelson wasn't shy announcing at Harding Park that he took Woods down in their big match there.
Hunter Mahan said neither Woods nor Mickelson may be the true ping-pong king in the U.S. Ryder Cup team room this week.
“Matt Kuchar is the best ping-pong player on the team,” Mahan told media with a sly smile. “If you see Phil, don’t be afraid to throw that out there. He may just walk up and leave because it would definitely hurt him.”
Mahan hinted that Mickelson’s so serious about ruling in ping-pong that he gets special coaching.
