Mickelsons geared-down game plan

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – You aren’t likely to see Phil Mickelson squeezing a high-risk shot between the trees to a dangerous pin placement at the U.S. Open this week.

He won't be letting loose with his driver the way he did when he won the Masters this spring.

“Phil has a great game plan this week,” said Butch Harmon, Mickelson's swing coach. “He’s going to be a lot less aggressive than people are used to seeing him.”

Harmon said Mickelson may hit as few as five drivers in a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links. Look for Mickelson to hit driver at the third, ninth, 10th, 13th and 14th holes.

“And maybe the second,” Harmon said.
