NEWPORT, Wales – European captain Colin Montgomerie couldn’t resist pouncing when asked about American captain Corey Pavin’s mistake in the opening ceremonies Thursday at the Ryder Cup.
“Yes, we’re 1-up,” Montgomerie cracked.
Initially, Montgomerie defended his opponent after Pavin failed to introduce Stewart Cink in the opening ceremonies. Montgomerie said the teleprompter was difficult to read, and that he decided not to use it at all.
Pavin cracked on himself afterward.
“I only screwed up once, so that wasn’t too bad,” Pavin said. “I only forgot one player. I could have forgotten two.”
