More putter woes for Rory in closing 73

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With a win and a playoff loss in the past three years at the Wells Fargo Championship, Rory McIlroy seemed destined to contend for the title again this week.

One little problem: His putter didn’t cooperate.

A second consecutive score of 1-over 73 left McIlroy just outside the top-10 on the final leaderboard. His Sunday round included four birdies, but they were offset by three bogeys and a double.

Still, he saw reason for optimism entering the upcoming Players Championship.

Tee to Green it was really good,” he said. “I got a good feeling. I'm doing well and looking forward to doing well at Sawgrass next week. Hopefully, I can take the good things from this week into that next week.”
