Mozo makes disabled student's dream a reality


Belen Mozo made one Knoxville, Tenn., student’s prom a night to remember.

Mozo, the LPGA pro known for her Cover Girl appeal as well as her game, accompanied Beardon High School senior Alex Notte as his prom date Saturday night. Notte, who has a neuro developmental disability, invited Mozo to be his date with his sister’s help via a YouTube video. They uploaded it onto Mozo's Facebook page.

Mozo’s acceptance touched the entire Notte family.

“Fairy tales do come true,” Kristine Notte, Alex’s mother, told the Knoxville News.

Alex became enamored with Mozo while attending the Wegmans LPGA Championship two years ago, according to the newspaper. Overcoming neurological, vision and hearing challenges, he took up golf. His sister, Arielle, helped him record the prom date invitation to Mozo with the song “Call Me Maybe” accompanying. Mozo did, in fact, call.

“Wonderful things happen because there are wonderful people out there,” Alex’s mother told the Knoxville News.

Before the prom date, Mozo attended a charity golf event benefitting Special Olympics at Gettysvue Country Club, where Alex plays golf. With Mozo in a gown and Alex in a tuxedo, the couple attended prom in a 1959 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud.

“I’m actually very nervous,” Mozo told he Knoxville News. “I think it’s a wonderful thing. I’m going to get to meet Alex’s friends.”
