Na ready to put an end to his waggle

FORT WORTH, Texas – In his first event since tying for seventh at The Players Championship and becoming the face of slow play on the PGA Tour, Kevin Na said he’s ready to try out a new and greatly abbreviated pre-shot routine at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

For Wednesday’s pro-am round at Colonial, Na adhered to a strict policy of one practice swing, address the ball and hit.

“My routine starts when I’m over the ball,” Na said. “I hit a lot of good shots and a lot of not so good shots where I was like, ‘What was that?’ A couple were because I wasn’t ready. But overall it wasn’t bad. I played OK.”

Na’s manic pre-shot routine drew national attention during the third round at The Players, an elaborate process that often included multiple practice swings, waggles, back aways and even an occasional “sorry” to his playing partner Zach Johnson.

Na didn’t play last week’s Byron Nelson Championship and devised the new plan with input from his swing coach Dale Lynch. Wednesday’s pro-am was the perfect place to test the new routine because, “I’ve got plenty of time,” he said.

Thursday’s first round, however, will be the real test.

“I think I need to play some competition golf and see how it goes,” Na said.
