NBC's Hicks: Miller not ready to retire after '14 Open

The end of NBC’s relationship with the U.S. Open doesn’t necessarily mark the end of Johnny Miller’s broadcasting career.

Dan Hicks, Miller’s partner in the NBC golf booth, doesn’t think the 66-year-old is ready to retire after one final Open at Pinehurst next June.

“I don’t know. I don’t think so,” Hicks said in an interview this week with sports media reporter Ed Sherman.

“I think Johnny is too good to just walk away because we’re not doing the Open anymore. He still wants to do some golf. Our team is tight. If the crew was breaking up, then I could see him leaving.

“We still (televise) a lot of good golf at NBC; the Florida swing, the Players, the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup. I think Johnny will want to be part of that.”

NBC Sports has televised the U.S. Open since 1995, and Miller’s contract with the network runs through 2015.
