Next on the tee

MARANA, Ariz. – Following his tie for 12th place last week in Los Angeles J.B. Holmes flew home to Florida only to get the call that he was headed back out west for this week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Holmes replaced Tim Clark who withdrew with an elbow injury. Who would be the next “alternate,” however, is unclear.

When the field was set with the Feb. 14 World Golf Ranking Stephen Gallacher was 67th followed by Thongchai Jaidee (No. 68) and Lucas Glover (No. 69). Rumor is Gallacher is back in Scotland and Glover’s manager confirmed he would not be travelling to Dove Mountain on Wednesday.

There were no Jaidee sightings on Tuesday at Dove Mountain but he would be next up if there was another withdrawal. Among the possibilities are Anthony Kim – although his swing coach on Monday said Kim will play – and Camilo Villegas, who both recently withdrew from events with an illness (Northern Trust Open) and a back injury (Waste Management Phoenix Open), respectively.
