Nicklaus sees growing desire in fight for No 1

RSS

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Jack Nicklaus is intrigued by the battle for No. 1 in the world rankings.

“It seems as though we are having more guys that are really working pretty hard to get to the top,'  Nicklaus said before teeing off in Wednesday’s Honda Classic Gold Pro-Am at PGA National. “That didn’t seem the case four or five years ago. They seemed to sort of turn it over to Tiger, and they were content to be two, three, four, five and move along.”

Nicklaus said he’s surprised Tiger Woods hasn’t bounced back to winning form yet, but he’s fully expecting Woods to do so.

Nicklaus also is impressed with the Europeans grabbing the top four spots in the world rankings.

“They seem to want it more right now,” Nicklaus said.

Nicklaus said he's always sensed the Euros wanting to prove themselves with the PGA Tour considered a superior tour.
