No 1 on the horizon for Kerr

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Cristie Kerr’s on the verge of more than a major championship title.

With a victory Sunday at the LPGA Championship, Kerr will move to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings unless current No. 1 Ai Miyazato finishes solo second. Miyazato is tied for 24th, six shots behind the players who are now tied for second.

Kerr, No. 5 in the world, would become just the fifth player and first American to hold the No. 1 ranking since the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings were established in 2006.

“It’s great to be No. 1, but you don’t want to be No. 1 for just one week,” Kerr said.
