No flag, but a wicker basket for Rose's caddie

RSS

ARDMORE, Pa. – It is the tradition at major championships, and any pro event really, to give the winning player’s caddie the flag from the 18th green, but at Merion – where the flag is an iconic wicker basket – that’s not very practical.

In the hectic moments following Justin Rose’s victory at the U.S. Open the Englishman’s caddie, Mark Fulcher, inquired about retrieving the 18th-hole basket.

“They said they would send me a basket, but I’ll give it to Rosie,” Fulcher said.

The victory, it seems, is reward enough for the longtime bagman.
