No pain, but gain: 82 feels good to recovering Clark

LOS ANGELES – Tim Clark shot 82 Friday and will miss the cut at the Northern Trust Open.

He was sitting dead last at 15 over when he walked off the course.

But he felt good, really good.

In fact, Clark, 36, was pain free, at least physically, and that made his return to golf feel like a passed test. It was his first start in eight months, since The Players Championship last year. He underwent surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right elbow last August.

“I was quite surprised with how my body actually felt,” Clark said. “Quite happy with that. Obviously, there’s a lot of rust there. I wasn’t able to score at all, but in terms of the arm, how I felt, I was quite encouraged.

“I didn’t know what to expect. The fact that I could get through 18 holes without having any pain was quite nice.”

Clark, winner of The Players Championship two years ago, believes he can get back to a normal schedule. He’ll play the Transitions Championship in his next start in a month.
