No repeat of 2012 comeback for Snedeker

SAN DIEGO – Brandt Snedeker found himself seven shots behind Tiger Woods starting the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open, but there would be no stunning comeback this year.

There would be no overtaking Woods on Monday at Torrey Pines.

“Last year was completely different,” Snedeker said after closing with a 3-under-par 69 Monday and finishing tied for second, four shots back.  “My game was a lot sharper last year . . . But at the beginning of the week if you had told me I'd have a chance on the back nine on Sunday, I probably would have taken it. So it's something to build on.”

Snedeker never had much chance on the back nine. Nobody did with Woods refusing to give ground.

Snedeker, who came from seven back in the final round at Torrey Pines last year to catch Kyle Stanley and then beat him in a playoff, kept a strong record going at Torrey Pines. In eight starts in professional events here, he has finished T-3 or better four times. He has six top 10s.

After posting a 65 on the North Course in the first round this year, Snedeker found himself tied for first place. A 75 on the South Course in the second round cost him going into the weekend.
