Noon weather report from Bethpage

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Your noon meteorological update from Bethpage:

Officials are hoping to get a break in the weather around 1:30 p.m. (ET), which would give the field a three-to-five-hour window to possibly complete the morning wave.

If the weather clears, Jim Hyler, chair of the USGA championship committee, said they could get players back on the course by 2:30 p.m., but he conceded there’s no chance the second wave will finish play which means that the earliest the second round can be completed is Saturday.

That’s good news for many of the amateurs in the field, who likely never planned to see the weekend.
