Norman set to return, but not to stay

Greg Norman will make a rare Champions Tour appearance this week at the Constellation Senior Players; though, he’s not overly enthusiastic about his game. 

"What I take to Pittsburgh is what I got," Norman said Monday on "Morning Drive."

Norman has not played on the Champions Tour since 2009, but returns in the city he had arthroscopic shoulder surgery in February 2011. He has been hitting the gym and the course in preparation for the event, practicing at his Medalist GC near Jupiter, Fla. 

This will be his third tournament of the year. He withdrew from the Humana Challenge and missed the cut at the Mayakoba Golf Classic on the PGA Tour. A full-time return to competitive golf, however, is not in the offing. The Aussie is instead focused on his litany of businesses.

"We've just seen this economic downturn hit rock bottom, so we've got to get ready for the next four or five years to see how it's going to come out and how it's going to affect the game of golf," he said.

Norman will also play at the Senior British Open at Turnberry, home to his 1986 British Open win. Through the remainder of the year, Norman intends to play the European Tour's Omega European Masters at the end of August, the inaugural Pacific Links Hawaii Championship on the Champions Tour in September and his Franklin Templeton Shootout in December. 

While he may pick up another tournament, Norman does not miss the grind of tour life.

"I do enjoy getting back out, playing the game of golf," he said, "but I don't enjoy standing there, pounding balls hour after hour."
