Not a perfect 10 for Creamer

RSS

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 10th hole at Saucon Valley Country Club proved to be Paula Creamer’s undoing once again in the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open.

After a costly triple-bogey on the hole Saturday, Creamer returned to the short par 4 with a more cautious attitude Sunday, shunning her driver for a 7-wood. But Creamer still found a bunker, this time on the right side of the fairway, and made bogey to drop her to 6 over for the tournament, eight shots back of leader Cristie Kerr.

Creamer had been 1 under through nine holes, but the bogey squashed any hopes she had of catching Kerr.

Creamer made a mess of the hole on Saturday, pulling her drive into a short greenside bunker left of the fairway, skulling her second ball over the green and then fluffing her third and fourth shots. After getting on in five, she two-putted for her seven. Sunday wasn’t as bad: Her second shot out of the bunker from 80 yards traveled half the distance to the green, but after pitching on she pulled off a tremendous two-putt from 45-50 feet to minimize the damage.
