Notes halfway through the US Womens Open

RSS

OAKMONT, Pa. – Some notes with the cut official after the conclusion of the rain suspended second round Saturday at the U.S. Women’s Open:

• The cut was made at 10-over 152 with 68 players advancing. In case you’re wondering, that’s not even close to the highest score for a cut at the U.S. Women’s Open. The cut was made at 35-over at Salem Country Club at Peabody, Mass., in 1954

• Juli Inkster, Anna Nordqvist, Se Ri Pak, Helen Alfredsson joined Michelle Wie in missing the cut.

• Alexis Thompson, the 15-year-old who turned pro this summer, made the cut, tying for 19th through two rounds. She’ll enjoy a terrific pairing for the third round with the last two players to be ranked No. 1 in the world before Cristie Kerr took over. Thompson will play with Jiyai Shin and Ai Miyazato. Thompson is scheduled to go off the first tee with them at 3:19 p.m.

• Six amateurs made the cut with Kelli Shean of South Africa leading the way as low amateur at 7-over 149. Lisa McCloskey (150), Jennifer Johnson (151), Danielle Kang (152), Tiffany Lim (152) and Christine Wong (152) also made the cut.
