President Barack Obama feels Augusta National should admit women as members.
Spokesman Jay Carney expressed the opinion of the Commander in Chief at a Thursday press conference.
'His personal opinion is women should be admitted to the club,' Carney said at the White House.
Carney added, however, the president feels the decision is ultimately up to the club.
Masters sponsor IBM had its first female CEO, Virginia Rometty, take the job in January. Dating back to 1981, the last four CEOs of the company have been offered membership. The company has been an official sponsor of the tournament for a decade, with other involvement going back further.
Augusta National chairman Billy Payne said Wednesday that the club would continue to refuse comment on membership deliberations.
