FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Officials hustled to get the morning wave back out onto the golf course and to tweak Bethpage’s Black Course for the second round.
Mowers were already clipping fairways and the first line of rough before the final first-round groups were finished, and USGA set up czar Mike Davis (pictured above on left at No. 13) was setting new pin placements.
Thursday’s deluge prompted Davis to change his set-up plan for a more conservative approach. We’re wondering if Mike Weir’s 6-under 64 prompted a similar change of plans. Of all the colors in the rainbow, the USGA has no use for red.
