Ogilvie: Olympic finish could lead to epic disaster

SAN FRANCISCO – Joe Ogilvie predicts calamity as a major theme in Sunday’s finish of the U.S. Open.

Ogilvie, in the first twosome off with Stephen Ames in the final round at The Olympic Club, shot 9-over-par 79 and vented about the course setup on his Twitter account.

U.S. Golf Association executive director Mike Davis has garnered rave reviews with his creative, intelligent and fair setups to USGA championships, but Ogilvie doesn’t like his handiwork at all for this finish.

“I fear that Mike Davis will go from the golden boy to a complete disaster with the back nine set up. Tricked up & could lead to Shinnecock,” Ogilvie tweeted.

“Back nine greens were much firmer and 1-2 feet faster on the stimp,” he said in a second tweet. “18 pin position might lead to the most tragic finish in championship golf.”
